How . . . this was the question that tangled our days

Becoming a family caregiver is usually unexpected.  There is usually no warning, no way to plan ahead and no time to learn.  You are busy trying to figure things out on the fly,  like how to find a wheelchair,   how do we find this service,  how do we do” that”, whatever the “that” is for that particular hour.  You learn new skills you did not know existed.  Learn how to understand medical terms and interventions you’ve never heard of before.    How and when to call emergency services.  The list goes on.

We  help YOU by sharing what WE learned the hard way!

Our loved one was diagnosed with a disease about which little was known –  except how to diagnose it.  He stopped walking overnight three years later.  He stopped speaking.    Total care 24/7.   (You can read his story here. )  He couldn’t adapt so we had to.

   Caregiver stress is real.  . . . .

with not enough information, being responsible for legal issues, medical information and treatment, supplies, daily chores of living, cleaning, cooking.   Part of the stress in caregiving is the unknown. . . what to do, how to do it, what can be expected and how to handle it,  Then the changes start . . .realizing you will have to  give up  plans and freedom. Family life and social connections change or disappear altogether.  Where can you find help?  How do you share information with medical providers?  Our blog posts are intended to bring pertinent information, to help you find time for your self, to reduce the uncertainty and loneliness.

Let us lighten the load for you by. . . . .
• Providing empowering knowledge so you can act confidently on behalf of yourself and your loved one
• Helping you feel confident in your caregiving role by sharing personal experiences
• Providing tools to document, organize and utilize information in making decisions
• Providing information to find the care, equipment and help you need
• Eliminating feelings of overwhelm, stress and uncertainty

We’ve gathered information in one place. . .

You are not the first person to deal with life as a caregiver. You are not alone, others are anxious to share what worked for them. There are many tools to help you on this journey and we are collecting that information for you.  Then, because we know first hand,  that there are so many questions and so little time to search for answers. . . . .    we made it easy.

We built a library for you

. . .  that is growing bigger each week.

Each post is designed to share specific information in quick and easy to read chunks assigned to one of the categories below (and above, on the navigation bar.)  Caregivers need support and information.   Usually they don’t know where to look for answers – or have the time to sift through the possibilities.  Here you’ll get practical, easy-to-follow advice and tips.  Plus tools to make the journey successful, positive, supported!   We understand – because we’ve lived it!
