Who are the caregivers?
Justin has been experimenting with AI recently. Notebook LM will let him choose what resources are used which insures better and accurate results His research turned up a stunning fact. . . . which we verified by checking the topic ourselves in the same trusted resources. The wording on half of the infographic was awkward and the pictures something else. However, we were so surprised by the information below that we decided to crop away the awkwardness and share anyway.
Forty percent of caregivers are men.
AARP and National Alliance for Caregiving said so in their joint report. “While men tend to assist with more physical tasks like getting in and out of beds and chairs, women are more involved in ongoing medical and daily care.” They also reported that eight years ago, just 34 percent of caregivers surveyed were men. 65% of the male caregivers are also employed outside the home while providing care.
USA Today reported:
- One in 20 male caregivers have been demoted or fired because of their caregiving responsibilities. Twenty-two percent had to change their job to better meet their loved one’s caregiving needs.
- One in 4 Gen Z men regularly perform unpaid caregiver work.
- The largest group, 27% of men surveyed, said they were caring for a parent, while 13% were caring for a spouse, 9% for a grandparent, 5% for another relative, 3% for in-laws and 2% for a friend.
- About 1 in 3 men became caregivers because no one else was available to help.
- Many male caregivers (43%) said they wanted to take on the caregiving role. Half of those caring for their spouse said the same
(By the way, you will always know if anything on this website is AI. We’ll tell you!)
